Press Release
Richland Center Police Department will be canvassing the city beginning next week to identify residential and business structures that do not have the proper address numbers displayed. Address numbers are critical to emergency responders such as police, E.M.S. and fire who need to locate an address without unnecessary delay. Address numbers also assist delivery and utility companies, service professionals, family, and friends in locating the correct destination. According to Chief of Police Billy Jones, newly constructed or remodeled homes and businesses are commonly found to be lacking the proper address numbers.
City ordinance requires that house numbers be securely attached to the front of the home or building in a conspicuous position and not higher than the first or ground story. The address numbers shall be not less than three (3) inches in height and must be plainly visible from the street.
You may contact the city clerk’s office at (608) 647-3466 if you are unsure as to what address number is assigned to your specific property. Homes and businesses lacking address numbers will receive a notice concerning the violation. Violations that remain uncorrected could face a fine per day until corrected.
Thank you for your cooperation.
