What do I have to do to deer hunt with my bow/crossbow on City Property?

 1.)  Go to the City Clerk's office, 450 S. Main Street, to pick up an Application for an Urban Deer Hunting Permit Packet.

 2.)  Call Open Season Hunting Outlet to set up an appointment for a shooting proficiency test. (608) 649-0030. Hours are Monday-Friday, 11:00am-4:00pm, Saturday, 8:30am-Noon. They will observe and fill out the proficiency form for you to take back to City Hall. A $5.00 fee will be assessed for the proficiency test.

 3.)  Go back to the City Clerk's office to purchase an Urban Deer Hunting Permit. You must present the application for permit as well as the proficiency test. A $5.00 fee will be assessed for the permit.

 4.) Read the instructional packet on how to reserve your spot online. There are (6) six hunting zones in the City of Richland Center, and each zone has a limit to the number of hunters allowed.

Deer hunting by archery or crossbow is permissible within the corporate limits of the City of Richland Center during annual Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources designated archery hunting seasons subject to the following limitations and conditions, per ORDINANCE NO. 2019 -10: 

    (a)  Hunting of deer by archery or crossbow within the corporate limits shall be done in accordance with all rules and regulations of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and City ordinances. 

    (b)  Hunters must possess a current Wisconsin DNR archery license.
    (c)  No person shall release a hunting arrow or hunting bolt within 300 feet from the nearest boundary of a City park. 
    (d)  No person shall release a hunting arrow or hunting bolt within 300 feet of a building located on another person's land, unless the hunter has actual permission from the landowner on whose land the building is located to hunt within the 300 feet. 
    (e)  A hunter may only release or discharge a hunting arrow or hunting bolt toward the ground from an elevated stand or other means. The arrow or bolt shall have the owner's name and telephone number permanently affixed. 
    (f)  Hunters must have actual permission of the landowner before entering upon privately owned land for the purpose of tracking or retrieving a deer.
